Service Line Orthopaedics

Service Line Orthopaedics conducts operation in the field of sports orthopaedics and prosthetic surgery through its Ortho Centers. The goal is an unbroken care chain where the patient feels comfortable from the first visit at our outpatient clinics to discharge after a possible operation. Good nursing care, high quality and medical continuity have top priority.

Throughout Europe orthopaedic surgery has traditionally been performed at general hospitals or multi-speciality clinics. It is Global Health Partner’s view that more effective treatment can be provided at specialised, high-quality, holistic centres where orthopaedic procedures can be provided alongside superior diagnostics and comprehensive aftercare.

Sport traumatology is a subspecialty within the Orthopaedic Service Line and mainly involves the treatment of joints, soft tissue problems and sports-related injuries. Arthroscopy is used to both diagnose and treat injuries. Sports traumatology is not only for patients with sports-related injuries, but also other patients with musculoskeletal disorders.

The other key subspecialty within the Service Line is prosthetic surgery (knee and hip replacements). Currently around 19,000 hip replacements and 11,600 knee replacements are performed every year in Sweden. Private sector providers have a market share of around 5% and there is strong competition in the market for the most common procedures. There is also continuous price pressure in the market from the public sector and the established providers. In January 2009, a free choice healthcare scheme was introduced for hip and knee replacement operations in Stockholm, with far-reaching quality demands such as a complication guarantee, something that has had a very positive effect for Ortho Center Stockholm.
