Diagnosis and treatments
The incidence of morbid obesity is attaining epidemic proportions throughout the Western world. The WHO estimates that almost 150 million people in Europe in 2010 are obese.
These people commonly develop various types of conditions as a result, such as type II diabetes, high blood pressure and infertility. Being overweight and the conditions that result cause a great deal of suffering to patientsand result in high costs of healthcare. Studies show that the only successful way to treat these
people is by surgery.
Global Health Partner's clinics mainly use the method called gastric by-pass, where a small pouch is created in the stomach and connected directly to the middle part of the small intestine. Studies show that gastric by-passes can lead to greater weight loss and an alleviation or cure of more associated conditions than other methods. The clearest example is that of type II diabetes, where studies show that as many as 82–98% enjoy a major improvement in the condition or are cured. This is also one of the major reasons why the payback time for an obesity operation is as little as two to three years.
Global Health Partner’s clinics to some extent offer conventional medical treatment as a complement to surgery.
